2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Finland 3 - Québec 6

ARCHAMBAULT AND LEBLANC HAVE FOUR POINTS EACH IN QUEBEC WIN

TIMMINS, Ont. – Just 14 hours after seeing its offence vanish in a shutout loss to Ontario, a game in which it managed just 14 shots on goal, Quebec’s big guns stepped up at the right time on Thursday afternoon.

Olivier Archambault scored twice in a span of 2:00 late in the third period to break open a 3-3 tie and Jean-François Leblanc scored into an empty net in the dying seconds as the eastern Canadians earned a 6-3 win over Finland.

Archambault added two assists while Leblanc had three helpers, giving each four points. Quebec (2-1) twice fought back from one-goal deficits and coughed up a one-goal lead early in the third period before the dynamic duo wrapped up their big games with a big finish.

Xavier Ouellet, Raphaël Bussières and Victor Provencher also scored goals for Quebec, which beat the Finns in the round-robin for the second year in a row, although in a slightly different fashion than 2009’s 9-4 victory.

Joel Armia, Sami Salminen and Markus Granlund had the goals for Finland (1-2), which dropped its second in a row but is still in semifinal contention. Armia added an assist, giving him a tournament-leading seven points in three games.
