UNITED STATES GETS FIRST VICTORY IN PEI

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – The United States is in the win column at the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

Four different players scored for the US as it defeated Japan 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the CARI Complex. The US is now 1-1 at the event, while Japan has fallen to 0-2.

Andy Yohe started the scoring for the United States at 3:35 of the first, when he took a pass from Taylor Lipsett on a 2-on-0 and slipped the puck past Japanese goaltender Shinobu Fukushima.

The United States took a 2-0 lead early in the second period, as Lipsett brought the puck down the right side and snapped a shot past Fukushima on the short side.

Bubba Torres made it 3-1 at 8:33. Japan scored its first goal of the tournament at 13:59 on a goal by Mamoru Yoshikawa.

Tim Jones finished the scoring at 7:26 of the third for the US.
