POULIN SCORES WINNER AS YELLOW BEATS BLUE

CALGARY, Alta. – Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que./Boston University, HE) scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period as Yellow picked up a victory in its first game at the National Women’s Team evaluation camp, beating Blue 4-2 on Thursday night.

Natalie Spooner (Scarborough, Ont./Ohio State University, WCHA) got Yellow on the board late in the first period, Meghan Agosta (Ruthven, Ont./Mercyhurst College, CHA) made it 2-0 early in the second and Bailey Bram (Ste. Anne, Man./Mercyhurst College, CHA) closed out the scoring with an empty net goal with 67 seconds to go as Yellow won despite blowing a 2-0 second-period lead.

Laura Fortino (Hamilton, Ont./Cornell University, ECAC) got Blue on the board late in the second period, beating Charline Labonté (Boisbriand, Que./McGill University, CIS), and Vicki Bendus (Wasaga Beach, Ont./Mercyhurst College, CHA) pulled the dark jerseys even just 57 seconds into the third as Blue made a game of it in the final frame despite being outshot 36-25.

Labonte and Liz Knox (Stouffville, Ont./Wilfrid Laurier University, CIS) shared the goaltending duties for Yellow, with Knox turned aside everything she faced in her 29 minutes of work, while Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont./Brock University, CIS) and Kim St-Pierre (Châteauguay, Que./Montreal, CWHL) split time between the pipes for Blue.

Yellow will look to make it 2-0 when it faces Red on Friday night at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena (6 p.m. MT), while Blue will look for its first win when it takes on White at 8:30 p.m. MT.
