DOMINANT THIRD PERIOD HELPS RED BLANK KAZAKHSTAN AT U18 CAMP

CALGARY, Alta. – Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ont./Whitby, PWHL) scored twice in the third period and Robyn Chemago (Slave Lake, Alta./Slave Lake, NAMHL) needed to make just 12 saves for the shutout as Red made it a sweep of the European teams at Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp with a 4-0 win over Kazakhstan on Friday night.

Red earned the victory in the camp opener on Monday, beating Norway 7-1.

Holding a narrow 1-0 lead entering the third period, Red dominated the final 20 minutes, outshooting the Kazakhs 20-2 and pulling away on two goals from Martindale and one from Taylor Accursi (Ancaster, Ont./Burlington, PWHL) in a span of 6:17.

Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Man./Pembina Valley, MFMHL) had the other goal for Red, opening the scoring on a power play midway through the first period. Geneviève Bannon (Candiac, Que./Ontario Hockey Academy, Midget AA) added two assists in the win.

Chemago was at her busiest in the second period, making seven saves – more than half of her 60-minute total.

Kazakhstan’s best chance to get on the scoreboard came late in the first period, when back-to-back-to-back Red penalties gave the European side almost four consecutive minutes on the power play, including a pair of five-on-three advantages that totaled close to two minutes.

Red wraps up selection camp on Saturday night (5:30 p.m. MT) with its second all-Canadian match-up against White.
