PARENT AND WASHKURAK LEAD GREEN PAST BLACK AT U17 CAMP

TAYLOR CROSBY

CALGARY, Alta. – Xavier Parent (Blainville, Que./Collège Esther-Blondin, LHMAAAQ) and Keean Washkurak (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo, MHAO) scored two goals apiece to help Green double up Black 6-3 on Thursday at Canada’s national under-17 development camp.

Just as they did in their opener Wednesday, Green struck for a pair of first-period goals; Josh Williams (Langley, B.C./Yale Hockey Academy, CSSHL) was first at 5:54, taking advantage of a turnover behind the net, and Cole Muir (Vista, Man./Yellowhead, MMAAAHL) doubled the lead at 12:11, redirecting a Thomas Pelletier point shot past Black goaltender Ethan Langevin (Brooklin, Ont./Whitby, OMHA).

Black didn’t give up, though, and a late goal by Sasha Mutala (Vancouver, B.C./Greater Vancouver, BCMML) cut the Green lead in half heading to the first intermission.

Washkurak had the lone goal in a penalty-filled second period, snapping a quick shot past the glove of Langevin to restore the two-goal advantage after 34 minutes (periods in came are 17 minutes).

Black came out flying in the third, and Mutala netted his second of the game at 4:35 to make it a one-goal game again at 3-2.

But Parent corralled a loose puck in the slot for a power-play goal at 12:07, and stole the puck at centre ice before racing in for his second at 14:12 to give Green a little more breathing room.

Mason Primeau (Etobicoke, Ont./Toronto Nationals, GTHL) got one back for Black with just over a minute to go, beating Green puck-stopper Luke Cavallin (Greely, Ont./Kemptville, HEO), but Washkurak found the empty net less than 30 seconds later to cap the scoring.
