Game Story

ONTARIO RED SECURES ANOTHER SHOT AT GOLD WITH 6-1 SEMIFINAL VICTORY

Ontario Red overcame an opening-game upset and slow start to the championship to secure another shot at gold with a decisive 6-1 victory over British Columbia in Saturday’s early semifinal.

Lexie Adzija (St. Thomas, Que./Oakville, PWHL) opened the scoring at 7:44 of the first frame, and Ontario Red headed into the intermission up 3-0 following goals by Zoe Boyd (Caledon East, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL) and Danielle Fox (Markham, Ont./Whitby, PWHL).

Abygail Moloughney (Ottawa/Nepean, PWHL) and Sarah Fillier (Georgetown, Ont./Oakville, PWHL) added two more goals for Ontario Red in the second.

British Columbia pushed back in the third and Mikayla Capelle (Dawson Creek, B.C./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) scored an unassisted power-play goal to put the previously undefeated team on the board, but they were unable to bridge the gap.

B.C. will play in the bronze-medal game at 12 p.m. ET Sunday, while Ontario Red will look to bring home gold once again at 4:15 p.m. The gold-medal game will be carried live on TSN2 following NFL football.
