Captains named for Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team

Series against United States begin Thursday

CALGARY, Alta. – The coaching staffs of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team announced Wednesday the captains and alternates for their respective three-game series against the United States.

Head coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk has named Erin Ambrose (Keswick, Ont./Clarkson University, ECAC) captain of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team, while Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Que./Boston University, HE), Halli Krzyzaniak (Neepawa, Man./University of North Dakota, WCHA) and Blayre Turnbull (Stellarton, N.S./University of Wisconsin, WCHA) will serve as alternate captains.

Head coach Cassandra Turner has named Micah Hart (Saanichton, B.C./Okanagan Hockey Academy, JWHL) captain of Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team, while Jaycee Gebhard (Plenty, Sask./Notre Dame, JWHL), Sarah Potomak (Aldergrove, B.C./Pursuit of Excellence, Midget AAA) and Josiane Pozzebon (Bourget, Ont./Nepean, PWHL) will serve as alternate captains.

Both series against the United States begin Thursday at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary; Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team faces the United States’ Women’s Under-18 Select Team at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, followed by Canada’s National Women’s Development Team taking on the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT. Games are also scheduled for Friday and Sunday, and admission to all games is free.

All six games will be webcast live off the game summary pages at www.hockeycanada.ca.

Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team were selected following selection camps from Aug. 7-17 in Calgary.

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts and coaching staffs for both teams will continue to evaluate players when they return to their club teams for the 2014-15 season, in order to decide which development team players will compete at an international tournament in Germany in January 2015, and which under-18 players will represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.
