After a 20-hour voyage, Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team has arrived in Piestany, Slovakia to begin preparations for the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.

The team departed Canada from Calgary International Airport just before 6 p.m. MDT on Wednesday, arriving in Frankfurt after a nine-and-a-half hour flight and best wishes from the Air Canada crew.

After a layover in the German city, the team took to the skies again for a 90-minute flight to Vienna, Austria before hopping a bus for the trip to Piestany, another two-hour journey.

With the team settled into the Satelit Hotel, the focus turns to hockey as Canada looks for its fourth gold medal in five years at the annual summer tournament.

The team will play a pair of pre-tournament games – against the United States on Saturday at 11 a.m. EDT in Trnava, Slovakia and against the Czech Republic on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT in Breclav, Czech Republic – before opening the tournament against Switzerland on Tuesday at 9 a.m. EDT in Piestany.
