2005 IIHF Ice Hockey Junior World Championship

Team Red 4 – Team White 3 (SO)

Wednesday night’s second Red/White Intersquad game started out as a defensive affair leading to a scoreless 1st period. In the 2nd period, Team Red, looking to avenge Monday’s loss, broke the scoreless tie as Jeff Carter scored at 18:42 of the second. Team Red then took a 2-0 lead when BJ Crombeen scored at 9:10 of the second.

Down 2-0 in the third, and with time running out, Team White exploded for two goals in a span of 11 seconds to tie the game. Eric Fehr netted his team’s first goal at 13:15 of the third, and Clark MacArthur quickly tied it after a slick move and quick release at 13:04. With the game tied after regulation, the fans were treated to a five minute 4 on 4 overtime period.

In extra time, both starting goaltenders, Devan Dubnyk for Team White and Réjean Beauchemin for Team Red stole the show, sending the game to a shootout. Team White scored first as Eric Fehr went five-hole on Beauchemin. Colin Fraser tied it for team red with their 3rd shot beating Dubnyk glove side. With the shootout tied at 1 goal apiece, Team Red’s final shooter Wojtek Wolski was the hero beating Dubnyk stick side securing the win for Team Red.

Wednesday’s victory was Beauchemin’s 2nd straight win, having previously backstopped Team White to their win in the first game of the series. With David Shantz injured, the goaltending tandem of Dubnyk and Ryan Munce switched to team White, while Beauchemin and newcomer Kevin Nastiuk transferred to Team Red.

The series, now tied at one game apiece, continues with the final game taking place Thursday night at 6:00pm local time at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary
