CANADA FALLS TO BELARUS IN

Taylor Hall, Colten Teubert, Cody Hodgson and Ryan Ellis scored for Canada, but it was Belarus who came away with a 6-4 win on Thursday in a pre-tournament game for both ahead of the 2008 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
MINSK, Belarus – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team came out on the losing end on Thursday in Minsk, Belarus, falling 6-4 to the host Belarussians in front of 2,800 fans at the Palace of
Sport.
The game was Canada’s first of two pre-tournament contests ahead of the 2008 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, which begins April 13th in Kazan, Russia.
The Canadians hit the ice after only three practices together, including one without their own sticks, and a long trip to the former Soviet republic.

NATIONAL WOMEN’S UNDER-18 TEAM SWEEPS USA WITH 4-1 WIN

Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team took to the ice on Sunday morning at the University of Ottawa Sports Complex and finished what they had started three days earlier, sweeping the three-game series with the USA’s National Women’s Under-18 Team with a 4-1 win.

CANADA SET FOR MEMORIAL OF IVAN HLINKA TO BEGIN

With a pair of pre-tournament wins over the USA and the host Czech Republic in the books, Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team is ready for the real games to begin at the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.

After a four-day selection camp in Calgary, followed by a trip to Europe and four days in Slovakia, Canada will open the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament on Tuesday against Switzerland.

“We’re feeling real good,” Bill Peters, Canada’s head coach, said following the team’s practice on Monday. “We just got done a quality practice and we get better every time we take to the ice. Our guys are full of confidence and excited about the round-robin starting.”
